Admission procedure for doctoral studies
Anyone who has obtained a master’s degree and met the admission requirements may be admitted to study in one of the two programs (Finance, Accounting and Corporate Financial Management). The study program is completed by defending a dissertation. Graduates obtain a third degree of higher education and the title “doctor,” abbreviated as Ph.D., used behind their name.
Doctoral programs are taught in Czech or English. Tuition fees are charged for programs taught in English. All study programs are duly accredited. The maximum number of doctoral students admitted each year is listed below.
Doctoral programs focus on doctoral students’ own research and publishing activities, including participation in scientific projects. As part of their studies, students complete a one-month research stay at a foreign research institution. The program is based on a partnership between students and their supervisors. Full-time students also participate in teaching and receive a doctoral scholarship. Detailed information about the programs is available here.
To write their admission essay, students choose from current dissertation topics in Czech (Finance; Účetnictví a finanční řízení) or English (Finance; Accountancy and Financial management). Detailed information about the admission process is published here.

Admission procedure
- The entrance exam consists of a scientific examination, which takes place before the admissions committee.
- The scientific examination takes the form of a discussion on the topic of a scientific essay within the study program to which the applicant is applying.
- The scientific examination assesses the scientific level of the essay, the applicant’s ability to argue, and the level of presentation of the issues discussed in the scientific essay. The applicant’s interest and overall preparedness for doctoral study are also evaluated. The scientific discussion assumes a level of knowledge equivalent to the state final examination in the corresponding main specialization of the master’s degree program at the Prague University of Economics and Business.
- The scientific examination is evaluated with a grade and a verbal assessment. The grades are 1 – excellent, 2 – very good, 3 – good, 4 – failed.
- If an applicant receives a grade of 4 (fail) in any part of the entrance exam, they have failed the entrance examination.
- The dean decides on the admission or non-admission of applicants to study and also reserves the right to change the form of study in the admission decision, taking into account the needs of the faculty after consultation with the program guarantor.
- The decision on admission/non-admission to doctoral studies will be sent to each applicant in accordance with the Higher Education Act. Admitted applicants will receive a decision on admission to the doctoral study program, including a decision on the form of study and admission to the department, as well as instructions for enrollment and commencement of studies.
- If an applicant was not admitted to the program solely due to a lack of capacity on the part of the supervisor, the results of the entrance examination are valid for one year from the date of the examination; this applicant may apply in the prescribed manner during the next regular admission period with a request for recognition of the successfully completed entrance examination.
- Appeal against a decision on non-admission to study: an applicant may request a review of a decision on non-admission to study. The request shall be submitted to the rector via the dean of the relevant faculty who issued the decision, within 30 days of its delivery.
- Applicants who have been admitted to a doctoral study program become doctoral students on the date of enrollment.
- Enrollment: Students enroll individually with the study administrator on the day of matriculation.
